Build My Future
April 2024 – Des Moines

Hosted by Iowa Skilled Trades, Build My Future is the largest hands-on career exploration event in the state.

More than 1,300 high school students attend annually, for which half are iJAG students from across the state. Students explore skilled trades careers with statewide employers and can participate in up to 100 hands-on activities that allow them to authentically experience jobs in welding, plumbing, lineman work, HVAC, masonry, electric work and more.

This event features a special ceremony known as ‘Signing Day’ where select iJAG and non-iJAG students declare their commitment to pursue a skilled trades career. Alongside them are employers who have partnered with us to enroll students in internship or apprenticeship positions after graduation.

Ways to get involved:

Students: Talk with your iJAG Specialist to express your interest in skilled trades and Build My Future.
Schools: Begin coordinating your trip to Des Moines with your iJAG Specialist.
Skilled Trades Employers: Send us a message to get connected with local students who have an interest in related careers. You could be part of the ‘Signing Day!’
Community: Make a donation to help with expenses related to student transportation and onsite resources. Or, send us a message if you’re interested in volunteering at the event.
