THE DRIVE TO MILITARY AND TECH CAREERS THROUGH IOWA’S COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Brian Tiet Military

Brian Tiet is an iJAG alum who graduated from Mount Pleasant High School just last spring. After participating in large statewide events and competitions through iJAG, he soon discovered a passion for two things: technology and serving his county. Uncertain of how to bring the two together, iJAG worked with the Iowa National Guard to guide him on the right educational and career path. Now, he is combining his two interests to pursue a unique career to eventually be commissioned into the U.S. Army.

Brian is highly committed to building a successful career; continuously enhancing the skills and knowledge needed to achieve his career goal. Currently, he attends Southeastern Community College in Burlington and is working to obtain an associate’s degree in IT networking and cybersecurity while serving as a private first class for the U.S. Army National Guard in Muscatine. He will transfer to the University of Iowa to participate in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) up until graduation. Brian also remains active in the iJAG ALUMNi NETWORK and regularly visits iJAG classrooms.

“I did not have the mindset of serving in the military due to not being educated on it. But iJAG exposed me to different services that sparked my curiosity and influenced my decision to join. I would not be on the path that I am today without iJAG. In every aspect of my life, the program helped enhance my communications skills while showing me the bright side of life.”
